Heidi Stevens has worked at the Chicago Tribune since 1998. She began her career as an editor, then was named a founding editor for the feature "On the Town." In 2012, she began writing her daily "Balancing Act" column, focusing on work-life balance, relationships and parenting. She told Start TV, "I was really vulnerable in a lot of those early columns. To hear from people that the columns resonate with them, there's no other feeling like it in the world."

As a journalist, Stevens said she had to overcome both fears and criticism and now she works to help others do the same. "I hope to empower young journalists," Stevens said
