Kerry Brodie put her lifelong love of cooking and desire to help refugees to good use. As an award-winning graduate of the Institute of Culinary Education and with a master's in government, Brodie created Emma’s Torch, a program that provides culinary training, skills and experience for refugees in the food industry – its goal to help these refugees find work in the culinary industry.

Although her nonprofit is hard work, Brodie realizes she doesn’t have to go at it alone:
