Angela Lansbury was ALL about body positivity — even if it meant getting cosmetic surgery

Angela Lansbury wasn't a "goody two-shoes." She thrived in her career and personal life because she valued herself and didn't seek acceptance from others. Like everyone, she had to grow into that mindset.

Despite Hollywood's obsession with the word "uglies" in the early and mid-1900s, Angela Lansbury stood tall. This derogatory term described women who didn't fit society's beauty standards, but she refused to let it define her. She was more than the "jealous friend" or the maid. She was a force to be reckoned with and proved it with her talent.

To us, Angela Lansbury was beautiful and didn't deserve harsh judgment for her appearance. Many actresses chose cosmetic surgery to boost their confidence.

Lansbury also went under the knife, but not for anyone else's approval, only her own.

"Cosmetic surgery shouldn't be just the secret of actresses and socialites now that it's available to anyone who wants it or can afford it," the actress told The Modesto Bee in 1989. The then 63-year-old underwent surgery in 1976 and 1986. "[I have never felt] over the hills in age or looks, but I do believe in doing everything possible for yourself. Before going on a self-improvement campaign, I ask myself, 'Why are you allowing yourself to look like this? You don't like seeing yourself with the uglies; why should anyone else?'"
