Kristen Bell shared a bond with Veronica Mars

Losing a best friend is incredibly painful. It's hard enough when a friendship ends, but losing someone to death is beyond words. On the show Veronica Mars, Lilly Kane (Veronica's best friend) was murdered, and in real life, Kristen Bell, who played Veronica, lost her own best friend in a car accident.

This was something she had in common with her character.

"When I was 17, my best friend was killed in an automobile accident," she told the Associated Press in 2004. She described the tragedy as "both the best and the worst thing that has ever happened to me. I think I'm a happier person because of it, as weird as that is to say, because, once you learn not to take people for granted, you live a happier life."

She also shared that her first audition, when she was 11, was where she met her best friend during a community theater production.

"That is where I met Jenny, my girlfriend, who was in the car accident. My mom took me outside and said, 'If you do this and you don't like it, we'll never have to do it again. We'll never even have to speak of it.' So I went back in and did the audition, and was cast in a dual role: In the first act, I was a tree, and in the second act, a banana."
