Kristen Bell started playing teenaged Veronica Mars when she was 24 years old

"You don't look your age" can be a compliment or an insult for some people. If you're older and someone says it, it can boost your confidence. If you're young, it can be annoying. For Kristen Bell, even though she was 24 playing teenager Veronica Mars, she was always carded or spoken to as if she were a child.

"I'm carded for R-rated movies, and I get talked down to a lot," Bell said to the Associated Press during an interview in 2004. "When I try to go rent a car or buy an airplane ticket or other stuff adults do, I get, 'Okaaaaaaaaay, honey.' I remember when I was 18, getting crayons in a restaurant."

Bell played many teenage characters as a young adult, which she didn't mind, but she looked forward to playing characters with more depth. "I like playing teenagers. It'll be nice when I can start playing girls in their 20s without their parents around," she added.

A character like Veronica Mars wasn't just a tough, normal teen. She was demanding, fierce, and could solve problems more quickly than the Sheriff and his team. One thing Bell truly loved about the character was that Veronica spoke her mind.

"She's a girl who's not afraid to speak her mind, but she's not annoying. She can be really strong, but without being butch. And since my parents split when I was 2, I love that she's from a single-parent family."
