The future of Charmed was uncertain during production of the seventh season's finale

There's never a guarantee that a show will be renewed. Whether it's a great series or not, network executives ultimately decide its fate. This can be frustrating for the cast and crew, especially the actors who put their all into characters they would love to live with just a bit longer.

During the seventh season of Charmed, Holly Marie Combs and Alyssa Milano weren't sure whether the finale would be their last time playing Piper and Phoebe Halliwell. "I'm not going to sugarcoat it," Combs said in a 2005 interview with The News-Herald. "I am not pleased. After this amount of time on a network, we deserve better."

According to them, though the final episode of season seven was in production, no one had said if they'd return. "Whatever's going to be is what's going to be," Rose McGowan, who played Paige (replacing Shannen Doherty's character after she departed), said.

Alyssa Milano was more worried about the fans than keeping her job. "I don't get... not giving them what they deserve for hanging in for years, because that's going to lose more audience."

Not many shows last as long as Charmed did, especially ones centered on magic and supernatural abilities. The actresses finally got news about season eight, but it was the last season.
